Derek Fuller

Where are you from originally, where do you live today, and where do you plan to retire?

I was born in Saskatoon, SK and was raised in Regina, Saskatoon, Quebec City and Gabon, Africa. I currently live in Airdrie, AB with my wife and four sons. My retirement involves spending quality time with friends and family while travelling and supporting humanitarian causes and initiatives. I’ve been incredibly blessed throughout my life and have experienced, first-hand, the positive impacts of building schools, churches, and hospitals in third-world countries and I intend to leave a positive impact on this world by helping families and children.

What led you into the finance industry?

I earned my first license in the industry when I was 18 years old. I have always been interested in financial products and solutions and after eight years of dealing with traditional investment and insurance products, it was a natural progression for me to pursue the private capital industry. It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 8 years in the private capital space… I guess, time flies when you’re having fun!

Tell us about your current company and role in the industry?

As Vice President of The Book Xchange (TBX), a company that provides a unique platform for independent financial advisors to buy, sell, merge, and finance their books of businesses in Canada, my role is about cultivating and managing relationships in the industry. After diligently working to help client-families achieve their financial goals, TBX is there to help those advisors, in turn, reach their financial goals through win-win-win succession plans and implementation.

In addition to my role with TBX, providing families with a safe, secure, clean, friendly and affordable place to play together is something I’m passionate about. As such, I am currently developing the inaugural location of 12 planned Canadian operations of the Big Fun Play Centre. These facilities will be some of the largest indoor adventure parks on the planet, offering a completely unique mix of family focused entertainment and attractions. We look forward to having your family be a part of our Big Fun Family in the months ahead!

What business goals do you want to accomplish over the next five years?

With the unique quality and strong demand for the product/service offerings of TBX, we should be one of the most recognized and recommended names when it comes to succession planning for financial advisors in Canada.

Within 5 years, Big Fun should be nearing completion of its national expansion plan and we’re hopeful that every family in Canada will be able to enjoy quality time together in one of our local facilities.

What are your passions outside of business and family?

Ways in which I can lead my family and my businesses to help other families and businesses are what drive me every day. My passions truly are my family and my businesses.

What is the one piece of advice you would give to young entrepreneurs?

Always focus on putting others first while providing real solutions to actual problems.
